Sensible Pet Care Services

Service Contract

At Sensible Pet Care Services, the safety of your pets, our staff, and our community is our top priority. This Client Agreement outlines the terms, responsibilities, and policies associated with our services. By using our services, you agree to the following:

Article 1 – Companion Animal Information

Clients must provide accurate and up-to-date information regarding their pet, including:

  • Weight: ______ lbs
  • Breed
  • Age
  • Behavioral history

Weight Classification

  • Small/Medium Dogs: Up to 50 lbs
  • Large Dogs: 51–79 lbs
  • Extra Large Dogs: 80+ lbs

Service Provider reserves the right to adjust pricing, handling procedures, and service eligibility based on the size, strength, and behavior of the Companion Animal.

Behavioral History (if applicable)

  • Leash pulling
  • Dog reactivity
  • Human reactivity
  • Resource guarding
  • Separation anxiety

Article 1A – Large Dog Policy (80+ lbs)

For dogs weighing 80 lbs or more, additional requirements apply:

  • Full disclosure of weight, breed, and behavioral history is required
  • A temperament and handling evaluation may be required prior to service
  • Proper equipment must be provided (secure harness/collar and non-retractable leash)

Dogs exhibiting aggression, uncontrollable behavior, or safety risks may be denied or removed from services.

Additional Fees

Due to increased handling and risk, additional fees may apply, including:

  • $10–$25 handling fee per service
  • Solo walk or limited group participation requirements

Article 2 – Service Limitations

Sensible Pet Care Services reserves the right to modify or limit services at any time for safety reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Unsafe weather conditions
  • Aggressive or unpredictable behavior
  • Inability to safely control the animal

For dogs over 80 lbs, services may include:

  • Solo walks only
  • Additional handling requirements
  • Additional staff if necessary

Article 3 – Payments

Payment is required in accordance with agreed service terms.

Failure to remit payment may result in:

  • Suspension or termination of services
  • Collection efforts, including reasonable legal or collection fees where permitted by law

Article 4 – Care Instructions

We will follow all care instructions provided by the Client. However, Sensible Pet Care Services is not liable for complications arising from incomplete, inaccurate, or omitted instructions.

Article 6 – Emergency Care

In the event of an emergency:

  • Sensible Pet Care Services is authorized to seek veterinary care on behalf of the Client
  • All veterinary expenses are the responsibility of the Client
  • Reasonable restraint may be used if necessary to ensure safe transport and handling

Optional:
Client authorizes emergency care up to $________ if unreachable.

Article 8 – Property Damage

Sensible Pet Care Services is not liable for loss or damage to property unless caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Article 9 – Independent Contractor Status

Sensible Pet Care Services operates as an independent contractor in accordance with New York law. Nothing in this Agreement creates an employer-employee relationship.

Article 10 – Liability, Risk Assumption & Indemnification

Assumption of Risk

Clients acknowledge that animal care services involve inherent risks, including:

  • Bites
  • Injuries
  • Property damage
  • Interaction with other animals

Legal Responsibility

Under New York law, dog owners may be held liable for damages caused by their dog.

Indemnification

The Client agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Sensible Pet Care Services, including its staff and contractors, from any claims or damages arising from:

  • The behavior of the Client’s pet
  • Injuries or damages caused by the pet
  • Undisclosed behavioral issues

Financial Responsibility

The Client assumes full responsibility for:

  • Veterinary costs
  • Medical expenses
  • Property damage
  • Legal fees resulting from incidents involving their pet

Safety Measures

For larger dogs or those presenting increased risk, additional safety equipment and service modifications may be used at the discretion of the Service Provider.

Article 10A – Insurance (Recommended)

Clients are encouraged to maintain homeowner’s or renter’s insurance that covers liability for pet-related incidents. Proof of coverage may be requested for dogs over 80 lbs.

Article 11 – Additional Liability Limitations

Sensible Pet Care Services is not responsible for:

  • Injuries caused by other animals
  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • Unavoidable incidents despite reasonable care

Add-On Services

Additional services may be available upon request:

  • Basic Training (30 min): $35
  • Basic Bath: $_____
  • Nail Clipping: $_____
  • Medication Administration: $_____ / day
  • Intravenous Medication Administration: $_____ / day

Agreement Acknowledgment

By using our services, the Client confirms that all provided information is accurate and agrees to the terms outlined in this agreement.
